Happy Every Day, Happy New Year, It’s Time To Celebrate

Why do we have to wait for special holidays to celebrate the miracle of life? Isn’t it time we started to appreciate how much we have to be happy for every day of our lives?

It seems to me that many of us are taking the bounty of our lives for granted. We spend so much time wishing for more that we forget how much we already have.

We take for granted things like:

Good Health

A Loving Family

The Blessings of God

The Miracle of Our Faith

The Beauty All Around Us

Our Ability To Think and Reason

The Wonders of The World We Live In

Our Beliefs and Our Passions

The Kindness of Strangers

Our God Given Souls

The Miracle of Life Itself

The list could go on and on. Maybe you can think of some things that I have forgotten that we take for granted. Maybe you can help others become more aware of their surroundings and their blessings.

Don’t waste your time thinking about the bad things that have happened in your life. It won’t make them go away any sooner. It won’t make you happier. It will distract you from concentrating on all the good things you have to celebrate.

Concentrate on the positive. Having a positive attitude will help you be happier. Believe in a good future for yourself and your family and your chances of having one will improve dramatically. Have faith in yourself and your ability to be a force for good. Believe in God and all He has given us.

Isn’t it time we took the time to celebrate our lives by trying harder to make something more constructive of them. Perhaps that’s what the celebration should be all about: Our ability to try and do better, our passion to discover more of the meaning of life, and our ability to be thinking and kind human beings.

What a wonderful world this is for us to live and love and work in. Doesn’t it make you want to celebrate your existence every day of the year?

Conversations with God

I believe that I can hold conversations with God. In my dreams, he hears my prayers. His sweet words, they answer my questions.

I asked God why he allowed terrible things like natural disasters to kill so many innocent people? He answered me as follows.

'Because you do not understand, I forgive you.

I do not understand dear God, Please forgive me.

God answered, 'I know you do not understand. I see your fears. I know your prayers. I am always with you, but why do you doubt me?

I doubt you because I do not understand? When will I begin to see the light?

God smiled. A flash of blazing glory crossed the horizon and he said, 'Be of good faith. You must believe, then you will begin to understand.

I find it hard to believe in that which I cannot see or understand dear God.

God said, 'If you have enough faith you will learn to understand. And if you have enough faith you will recognize my glory that is within you.

With this last pronouncement a warm glow of pure joy seemed to fill every fiber of my being and I said, 'thank you dear God.

And God said, 'be not afraid because I am always with you. I have given you the ability to think independently. Use this gift wisely.

Thank you God, but how can I use your gift wisely if I do not understand?

God replied, 'If you have enough faith you will begin to understand. If you have enough faith, all things are possible. Why do you question me?

I have so many questions dear God. When will I begin to know the answers?

'When you are ready, when you have evolved into the thinking human being I meant you to be, God replied.

I feel that I have been ready to believe in you my entire life dear God.

God said, 'Than where is your faith? Why do you question me who has created you?

I do not have the answer dear God; all I have is more questions.

God said, 'If you still question me than you do not have enough faith in yourself. For I have made you in my image.

At this point I felt as if the whole world was shaking and trembling. I asked God if he was mad at me?

God said, I am not mad, I share your pain, I share your dreams, I know your frustrations, why do you still question me?

Dear God, I do not know why I am so insecure. I only know that I wish with all my heart to believe in you.

God chuckled and the whole nights sky seemed to light up with his merriment. He said, 'You will, for I believe that you are evolving into a good and worthwhile person.

I told God that I found it hard to believe that God had faith in me considering all the weaknesses of spirit that I suffered from.

God said, 'You are entitled to be a Person of Faith because I created you in my own image just as all of these seemingly random acts of nature are part of my grand design for the evolution of your world in the interests of the greater good. Do not question my intent.

With this a feeling of pure bliss took hold of me. I felt a sense of contentment and peace of mind that I had never known before. All I could do was to murmur, 'Thank you dear God.

God encompassed me and said, 'Why has it taken you so long to find my grace? Why have you had to fight yourself to become a Person of Faith?

I guess even God has questions when it comes to dealing with his own creation.

God must have heard me for he said, 'It is all part of my grand design. As you begin to evolve into the thinking human being that I have created you to be, you will begin to understand. Tell all your friends that question their faith that they are all part of my creation. They are part of my grand design.

I didn't want to tell God that I still didn't understand why bad things happen to innocent people, so I decided to take his pronouncement as correct as a matter of faith. He must have heard my thoughts because He said,

"Now you are starting to get the message, spread the word."

Are Your Hormones Out Of Whack?

Johnny can’t help himself. Even when he becomes a full grown man he has the raging hormones of a teenager. He is a veritable genius whose aggressive genes make him act out most of his fantasies as his emotions boil over.

Johnny’s raging hormones lead him to a life on the edge. Moving swiftly from one affair to the next, he experiments with anything that will put his life in jeopardy such as drinking and drugs and sadistic women.

He thrives on living life to the fullest, and sometimes more than one life. Part of the time he feels he exists in different worlds at the same time thanks in part to quantum computing and his belief a game master is creating virtual worlds and alternate realties for him to live in.

Johnny seeks salvation in a new religion he creates called Dialectic Spiritualism, which promotes touching other people in their private essentials to help them find their inner selves. His weird concept of faith leads him to discover that he does believe in God.

He can’t, however, stop his aggressive out of control hormones from getting him in trouble when he falls onto the raging rocks of an inlet of despair, attempts suicide at college, falls off the roof of his fraternity house during a drunken party, crashes his plane in the jungle, parents a seven foot tall giant, hallucinates in a drug infused frenzy that giant watermelons are falling from the sky filled with beautiful women, or enters into an adulterous affair with a movie starlet when newly married to the love of his life, Jody.

Constantly striving for his own redemption, Johnny crosses the Country trying to help others find salvation, and he goes on National TV to promote his causes, but his dark side gets the better of him as he is captured in pictures printed in the newspapers hog tied and stripped naked in an orgy of masochism.

In a state of despair after his followers leave him, he loses touch with reality and even consciousness only to be redeemed by God with the help of his inner self – a one-foot tall albino dressed in a boy scout uniform who is responsible for Johnny’s new beginning.

Are You Searching for God?

I feel like I have spent most of my adult life sinning and than searching for God to find salvation. What about you are you secure in your faith or are you searching for God also? Are you a sinner looking for salvation like me, or a person of faith who is beyond reproach? Most of us I think are both.

Maybe even doubters and sinners are entitled to be people of faith. Could it be that it’s a matter of intent? Could it be that my wanting to find God counts?

I have been searching for God in all kinds of places. I have looked for Him in organized religions, in the traditions of my parents, and in the teachings of many wise gurus. With years of practice in searching for God under my belt, I have decided that the search for God is a deeply personal thing. It is a quest whose journeys end will be dictated by using my imagination and awakening the deepest feelings of my innermost soul.

I have come to the conclusion that we can share the search, we can share our thoughts, but each of us must find their faith in God in our own way.

It’s a matter of perception. It’s a matter of how much I can use my mind and heart to determine my version of God. Many have told me that there is only their way to God. Many have told me that I need to follow a set format. But I believe I have to follow my instincts in my search for God. I must determine for myself what God means to me.

We can share the journey, but it is I alone that can find the faith in God that I have been searching for – the God of my dreams.

In different perceptions of God, we can even share believing.

If you want to search together, come take my hand, but the God you are searching for is of your minds making.

Did God Need A Literary Agent When He Published The Bible?

I know that the bible was published after God became known to us, but the thoughts are supposed to be His, aren’t they? How did the good book get published?

My own thinking on the matter is that God didn’t really need an agent to get His good book published. All He had to do was to rely on word of mouth and His own words of caring and kindness. I don’t mean to be lacking in humility, but I hope the same can be said of me one day—I mean about the word of mouth part.

It is difficult, however, to believe in that which is beyond our powers of reason to see or understand. But that is why God is God I think. And that is why believing in Him requires an element of faith.

If we humans were indeed fashioned in his image, then we should find the faith to believe in ourselves as well. Sometimes that proves difficult.

I am an unknown writer who has to rely on word of mouth to make my words known. Not that I am comparing myself to God, but I too find myself little understood and almost invisible.

I need recognition. Someone that will recognize as one agent said, “that I am a gifted writer who has an unbelievable imagination. Sometimes I think I am surreal like some of the characters in my seven novels.

So if there is an Angel up there that would like to guide me to a horde of new readers, I will be eternally grateful since I’m self publishing.

Futures/Past wouldn’t do that, it has a really catastrophic black ending, but Husband Hunting might lighten up every ones mood. I think it is a new genre that might be called husband light.

Last and possibly not least might be the Wasn’t Man, which is a mystery about insider trading, or was it?

Oh, I almost forgot my most recent novel – Sequin Boy and Cindy. It’s a love story about a young American Indian who sheds his facial ornamentation for the love of his life.

Just a final thought, these novels are definitely not autobiographical or else I have a seriously split personality.

Perhaps that is why I am searching for God and some more readers, at the same time.

The Little Christmas Tree That Could

Johnny Jr. was pursuing a quest to find his faith in God. He bought a tiny little Christmas tree to celebrate the holidays. It was all that he could afford at the time.
His wife and little children were very disappointed that the tree was so small. They didn't say anything, but Johnny Jr. knew it, and was upset that they were not happy. He wished and prayed that the tree was larger and more magnificent.

The night before Christmas when he went to put his few meager presents under the tree, he was startled to notice that the Christmas tree had grown much larger. It was taller by more than three feet and wider and its branches seemed to sparkle. The few tiny ornaments and lights that Johnny Jr. and his wife had managed to put up also appeared to have multiplied, and now their glow lit up the whole room.

Johnny Jr. called his wife and little children over to witness this miracle of the little Christmas tree that could grow. He had been praying that things would get better for him and his family, but he never dreamed that his prayers would be answered in this manner.

Johnny and his family were convinced that it was their faith in God that gave them the miracle of the little tree that could grow.

Are your fingers to short or to slow to text a prayer to God? Don’t worry about it. This will fast become a new age way to express your faith in our common Lord and see your dreams come true. If you can take the time to painstakingly tap out message after message to your friends, how about letting God know that you love him and want him to be a part of your life.

You don’t have to shout it out. You don’t have to mention it at the dinner table or even in church. God knows you’re busy. How about a simple little text to let Him know that you have faith in Him and need his help?

Don’t worry about your spelling or taking linguistic short cuts, God knows what is on your mind. He just wants to hear your prayer to him personally.

GRANDMA’S SECRET POTION OF FAITH

Grandma Jenny slipped shoveling snow off the front steps of our home in the midst of a fearsome snow storm at the age of ninety-six and broke her hip. She was a feisty little woman who weighed only ninety-five pounds and stood four feet-nine inches tall. The shovel was bigger than Grandma. You might wonder why she was out shoveling snow early in the morning at her advanced age, but it was part of her stubborn and cantankerous nature. And it was a part of her tradition. She didn’t want my father going to work and getting his feet wet in the snow. It was a matter of respect for the man of the house. It was her way.

Grandma was from the old country – Russia to be specific. She came to the United States as a girl of fourteen traveling for fifteen days on a tramp steamer and surviving on bread and water. She lost her provisions, her money, and her clothes on the trip over to thieves that hounded naïve, unsuspecting young girls such as her as a normal part of refugee voyages in those days. Most people though it was the work of greedy members of the crew. She arrived in this country penniless and literally with only the clothes on her back. But nothing could stop Grandma from making a new life in the land of her dreams, or bringing with her the rituals and traditions that were an innate part of her heritage, her faith, and of her very being.

Until she slipped and broke her hip, Grandma Jenny had always been healthy. None of us in the family could remember her having a cold. She attributed her good health to a secret potion of Elderberry Brandy that she distilled in the attic of our Georgian Colonial House. I have no idea where she got the Elderberries from or how she prepared the brew. We were never allowed up to her special place in the attic to see what she was doing. Everything that Grandma did was a secret.

Grandma had a shot of the special potion when she woke up in the morning and when she went to bed at night, that much she told us. To the best of my knowledge it was the only medicine she ever took. On rare occasions such as holidays and birthdays, we were all invited to join her for a sip of her Elderberry Brandy. I was allowed to participate from the time I was a teenager. Boy did that stuff pack a wallop. It is no wonder that Grandma was never sick. The brandy must have killed the germs. My dad didn’t really like it. He was a scotch man. My mother struggled to swallow it. She didn’t drink. We all participated in the Ritual. No one in the family was about to insult Grandma Jenny. She was too tough a cookie to be trifled with.

On one of the rare occasions when Grandma Jenny bothered to talk to me, communication was a problem since she spoke only Russian; I asked her what was so special about the secret potion? She sort of half smiled at me indicating that when I was more mature I would understand, pointing at my head. Grandma was great at the universal language of hand signals. I do understand a little Russian, but I don’t speak the language. Fortunately for me Grandma did understand English except when she chose to pretend that she didn’t. Even the dog understood Russian because Grandma fed him and he didn’t speak at all. When she called him to come and get it in Russian, he came running. No one disobeyed Grandma. The dog was a huge Boxer named Slugger. It was amazing to see him cower in front of my Grandmother, and wait for her command allowing him to eat. He sure didn’t act like that with my father or me. He once jumped up on my Dad and pushed him so hard that he fell down and dislocated his shoulder. Slugger wouldn’t dare jump up on my Grandma. The dog knew better.

After Grandma passed away, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was so special about her secret potion and how to make it. Grandma wasn’t big on measurements or recipes. She insisted that you just add a little bit of this and a little bit of that. This was the way she talked when someone wanted to know how to make her yeast coffee cake or her saffron laced ginger-carrot candy. Unfortunately the secrets died with her.

I think I finally have the answer when it comes to the secret potion. It wasn’t the herbs that she added. It wasn’t how high the alcohol content was. It was the love with which she made it and dispensed it to the whole family. It represented to her a melding of old traditions and new rituals. It symbolized her faith in God, and the respect she had for our family and our Country. It was a way for her to celebrate her freedom. It was her way of communicating to us in a language of kindness and caring that we could all understand.

Sometimes when I sip a little brandy late at night to help calm me from the stress of the day and the threat of terrorism, I wonder, couldn’t we all use a little of Grandma’s secret potion to help us through these troubled times? The commercial stuff doesn’t seem to be doing the trick anymore. It lacks the tradition of caring, kindness, and love necessary to make it a special brew. It lacks that personal faith-filled touch of Grandma Jenny. It doesn’t have her tenacious character or her will to survive. It lacks respect.

There are some things that you can’t put in a bottle, smack a label on, and expect to work miracles. Sometimes you have to find the right ingredients in your own heart. Sometimes you have to distill them yourself. Sometimes the secret potion of faith is within you.

Chapter 2 - Control Freak - Excerpt Magic of Faith

The narrator, I Glorious, is a Magic Genie Faith Builder.

You wouldn’t believe how much mail I am getting.

One reader wrote saying that while he did find me irascible and sort of irrepressible, he did not find me in the least irreverent and he was disappointed. Wait, I am just getting warmed up.

Another would be reader wrote asking if having Faith would get him off the pills he was taking for some unknown illness that had rendered him impotent. I already told you people that I don’t do diseases and I don’t do sex. I am a Faith builder not a Faith healer. I have no body. I am nobody and the only thing I know about sex is the result of vicarious experiences from other people’s hi jinks. Believe me, none of it was very thrilling. Please don’t make me repeat myself. My life span is infinite and I could end up saying the same thing hundreds of thousands of times.

Some foreign reader wrote to me in French. I have no idea what he was talking about. I only remember a few words of French which were part of my title when I was in the mind of some big Whig who was a Minister Without Portfolio during the French Revolution. If you want to ask me a question please write to me in English or Spanish. I do speak a little Spanish from the character I am presently playing in a novel called The Magic Pill. I don’t understand why all people can’t speak a common language. They all have the same hopes, desires and dreams

Who was the nitwit that wrote saying certain religions don’t believe in Magic. Why can’t you cowards leave your name? I don’t give a damn what the rules are or what the hell you think for that matter. There, is that irreverent enough for you. I am prepared to use any trick in the book, and that includes the Big Book to make you have Faith. I will use any gimmick I can think of. I am a Gimmicktician you know, an inventor of words as you can see, and am proud of it.

You may think I am trifling with your emotions with all the Q & A, but I am only trying to get you relaxed enough so that you will be able to handle the Faith building lessons I am about to give you.

Lesson Number 1 – Think of someone you know who is worse off than you are. Try and help them anonymously. That means don’t let them know it is you that is helping to make their life a little better. That way they won’t end up hating you for your act of charity. You have to have Faith this will help you in the long run because no one is going to know about it in the near term. This way at least when you add up what you have done with your life you won’t end up feeling like a total Zero. Yes, I am condescending. It is my nature. There, don’t you feel better already?

Lesson Number 2 – If you are scared of the dark, close your eyes and think of the sun beaming down on you on a bright sandy beach with clear blue waters lapping at the shore. This will probably work until you open your eyes and see that it is still dark. It is best to relax and go to sleep having Faith that when you wake up in the morning you will be facing a bright tomorrow. I love this, don’t you?

Lesson Number 3 – Don’t be afraid to think with your heart as well as your mind. I am controlling what is going on now so I won’t let you make a mistake, at least not a big one. If you mess up anyway don’t worry. Having Faith means being willing to take chances, No one is perfect. Everyone messes up some of the time. There, doesn’t knowing its OK to make a mistake make you feel less tense? Aren’t you happier now?

Stop trying to be perfect. Stop trying to do everything right. Life includes many randomly selected outcomes. Like everything else this is God’s will. The only one I know that is nearly perfect is me. Since I am working with your mind now this is about as close to perfect as you are going to get. Don’t you feel better knowing this? This Faith building thing has it’s own rewards.

Lesson 4 – Never give people more than 4 lessons in any one session. It is tempting fate. Most people can’t remember more than 4 things at a time. Do you remember what we just talked about? Don’t worry sometimes I don’t remember either. I am constantly distracted with all your thoughts jabbering at me at the same time. Just be patient. Eventually your brain waves will stop competing with everyone else, and you will be able to listen to me only. There, doesn’t that give you peace of mind?

Random Ramblings
I met a businesswoman recently who was a real control freak. She always had to be in control of everything; her husband, her employees, even her children. She was so intent on being in control that it made her very nervous. She developed a bright red rash on her face replete with whiteheads. Her doctors diagnosed her as having emotionally induced acne. Her employees stopped respecting her so the Board of Directors of her Company demoted her to Company Librarian where she could hide her head in the archives. Her husband left her. Her children were so embarrassed they refused to let her drive them to school and started hitching rides on motorcycles driven by members of the juvenile division of the Hells Angels. She became an emotional wreck and went totally out of control. She dyed her hair purple, green, red and yellow, and dressed in a full-length dungaree jacket with the words – This is the start of the Peacock Revolution silk screened in four colors on the back. No one knew what this meant. No one Cared any more. It just goes to show you that you can’t always be in control. God is the only one who really has control. Relax, life is good. Go with the flow, be Patient, have Faith. Things will work out without you being in the driver’s seat all the time.

To find your Faith you first have to believe in yourself. Start taking tiny steps to build your confidence. How can you believe in the Almighty if you don’t believe in yourself? You were made in his image weren’t you?

Take time to look around. What do you see? People fighting, people with fear in their eyes and terror in their hearts. You don’t see many happy people. That’s because they don’t have Faith. They don’t have a sense of humor. Woe is me, where has all the magic gone. Don’t worry, we are going to find faith together.

Maybe God Is An Alien

I know in my heart that God is real and is always with us, but have you ever stopped to consider that the reason He knows everything is that he might be a time traveler who has gone back and forth throughout out history, and therefore knows everything that has happened and will happen to us. Maybe He changes what happens to us as He goes along.

He is definitely, in my opinion foreign to our understanding, and thus in my opinion an alien.

The question, I think, is how much has He been an active participant in our development as opposed to just an observer to the fact of humanities existence.

To my way of thinking He has always been an active creator/participant in our development because he has brought us knowledge in the form of the bible – a code to live by – a distinct set of rules. He wouldn’t have bothered to enlighten us to this extent if He didn’t care about us.

He also brought us dogma, making it easier for primitive entities such as ourselves to have a framework in which to live our lives with relative meaning. God wouldn’t have bothered to do this unless He saw our need for structure in our lives.

I wonder how we appear to God? Do we look like lost souls searching for the meaning of life? Does He feel we will ever reach a point where we will be intelligent enough to understand His meaning and magnificence?

Is God waiting for us to reach a certain point in our development when we will be able to grasp the concept of what He is? Maybe our thirst for knowledge in the form of technology and new computer programs and the theories of quantum computing are all making it possible to draw closer to an understanding of God as opposed to pulling us father apart.

We humans must appear to God, in his travels through the universe, through infinite time, to be a funny lot. We speculate as to His meaning, yet we worship his glory without fully understand why He is the guiding presence in our lives.

Maybe we too one day will advance to a stage where we can travel through space and time, or is the very concept of His having made us in God’s image too difficult for us to fully grasp? Is the idea of God alien to us, or do we have enough faith to believe in the righteousness of what God has in mind for us? Will we ever develop to the point where we understand?

All three major indexes are up the sky’s the limit on the coming Holidays. They are very bullish on the coming of Christmas and New Years.

Smart investors full of faith and hope are convinced that the Holidays are coming once again this year bringing with them people of good cheer and an abundant faith in the future.

So what if the economy is in rocky shape we have survived recessions before.

So what if people are a little depressed over the loss of jobs, things are definitely going to get better, aren’t they?

I am tired of searching around and looking for experts to answer my questions. I need help and I need it now. I need advice that doesn’t come with a price tag. I need to know answers to:

1. How do I find the love of my life?
2. How do I live longer, happier and healthier?
3. How do I prevent disease?
4. How do I manage disease?
5. How do I make a contribution to society?
6. How do I do something worthwhile with my life?
7. How do I have more fun?
8. How do I stop being lonely?
9. How do I achieve my goals in life?
10. How do I make my dreams come true?
11. How do I find happiness?
12. How do I find faith?

And that’s not all. There is so much more I want to know. I think we all have a lot of questions that we need to find the answers to. I want these answers from people who know because they have the life experiences that taught them the answers, not from someone that read about it in a book or learned it in a Masters program. I want real life answers to my questions, not theoretical dissertations. I want a non-expert expert to answer my questions.

Some Things You Just Can’t Patch Together

People are not like a bunch of old cloths that you can mend by sewing patches on the torn parts. People are different.

Then why are we trying to patch ourselves together with patches to help us stop smoking, eating too much, and taking various kinds of medication in patch form. It isn’t natural.

I think that the only kind of patch that we really need is a patch of faith: something that will remind us of the place that God can play in our lives, something that will give us comfort, and help us believe in the power of the Almighty to help us cure ourselves of afflictions and addictions.

I know that sometimes it is hard to believe in that which we cannot see so the symbolic use of a patch of faith may be the only type of patch you will ever need to help you cure yourself of what ails you.

I know that having faith and believing is hard sometimes when the weaknesses of our bodies drain us of our God given strength.

We need to find faith in the hope that we can stop patching ourselves together. We need to believe and to try again. We need to have faith in ourselves and in God.

Sometimes the will is strong, but the body is stronger. It is times like these when a patch of faith can help us hold ourselves together. It is times like this when a patch of faith can help mend our souls. It is times like this when a patch of faith can work miracles.

I’m listening as hard as I can, but the silence is deafening. Why won’t you talk to me? Don’t you have something to say to me?

Every once in a while I hear a tiny whisper; a little murmur, as if you were trying to say something, trying to communicate, trying to form a union or meeting of our minds, but I can’t understand you.

Won’t you please speak up?

I know you have vast knowledge and important things to say. I know you mean well and have my best interests at heart. I know you love me, but why can’t I hear you.

Won’t you please speak up?

In my mind I imagine we are talking and smiling and laughing together, but I can’t quite catch your drift. What are you saying that is making me laugh? Why are you smiling? Your thoughts are not clear to me.

Won’t you please speak up?

Sometimes I feel as if we are passing in separate canoes down a raging river shouting something at each other, but the roar of the rushing waters keeps me from hearing you, and it keeps us apart.

Sometimes I feel like we are strangers passing each other on our way home from work at night without a word or a nod of greeting. I know you know me, and I know you. Why won’t you recognize my virtue? Why don’t you say what is in your heart?

There are times when I feel all alone, yet in the back of my mind I know you are there. Can’t you feel my desire? Don’t you know I want to embrace? Where are you? Don’t leave me here all alone. I need to know you are there.

Sometimes when I am asleep, I dream that we are together; gathered in a beautiful field of nature’s grand design. And we are holding hands, and talking to each other and singing sweet songs of happiness.

In my dreams I can hear you. I can hear what you are shouting to me. I agree. It’s time we came together. It’s time we made love, not war. It’s time we stopped our petty squabbling about different traditions we do not even remember the reason for. It’s time we remembered how we started, and that in the beginning we were of one desire. Together we can make a difference. Together we can change the world. Together we can make something wonderful happen.

That is probably why you got in trouble trying to work from home to begin with. This is where you find out what you are doing wrong, and what you can do to change it.

Here are ten reasons your not smart enough to work at home and what you can do to turn yourself into a self made work at home success story.

1. You’re a sucker – That’s right, you fall for every get rich quick scheme that comes along. Don’t listen to that nonsense that you can make thousands of dollars a week doing nothing. In most cases the only one getting rich here is the con artist selling you that get rich quick pitch. Start to use your head and learn to rely on the instincts that got you this far in your life. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Don’t be a sucker.

2. You’re not computer literate – Join the club. That’s how most people start out on the Internet. If you nine-year-old child or grandchild can operate a computer, and navigate their way around the Internet so can you. Get some free lessons from your kids or friends. You don’t need to know that much to get started. The rest you can learn as you go.

3. You freeze up – Are we talking sexually or when you have to follow a command on the Internet? What did you do when your boss at work told you to do something? Did you freeze up or try and accomplish the task set out for you.

4. You keep reading – And reading and reading. There is so much information out there that it is confusing you. You don’t know what to believe. Start doing something. Experience will win out over reading about it time after time. Take some action.

5. You can’t decide – Is your problem you can’t decide what to have for lunch, or what business to go into working at home? Try and find something that you like to do, something that fits in with your interests and hobbies. Make a decision.

6. What do you sell – Who said you had to sell anything. Maybe you should give your information away and rely on pay per click income or affiliate sales once you create traffic to your site, or maybe you just want to sell the Web site or blog because due to the brilliant information you are dispensing you are getting a lot of traffic. Get some traffic first.

7. You have no Web site – You can find someone to put it up for you called a Web master or you can get an affiliate site to sell other people’s products for very little, or you can start a blog, which you can do without knowing any html. Setting up a blog is as simple as painting by the numbers. Give yourself a voice on the Internet. Set up a blog.

8. You don’t have an address- Do you mean you are homeless or you don’t have a domain name? If it is the former you are going to have real problems working from home. If it is the later you can buy one for a few dollars. First decide what you want to offer. Some people have even set up online businesses working from Internet public access from the library. Stop using excuses.

9. You don’t have a product – You do, but you don’t know what it is yet or how to make it. Somewhere rolling around in your mind is the knowledge to make an information product in the form of an e-book you can sell or give away to get more traffic to get people to buy something else. You are the product.

10. You’re not organized – Now you are starting to tell the truth. Make a list of things you need to do to start your own work at home business. What you need is a plan and some good advise. Would you change jobs without a plan or checking out what you are doing with someone you trust? Get an organizer and use it to make a plan.

Starting to work at home on the Internet is only going to work if you employ the skills that got you to this point in your life to begin with. I could feel it stirring in me. Pulsing stronger and stronger. I wanted it more than I had ever wanted anything before. I desired it. I craved it. All I had to do was to reach out and grab it when no one was looking.

I was ten years old, and it was the most beautiful, powerful yellow water pistol I had ever seen in my whole life. I tried to tell myself that the toy storeowner would never miss it, but I knew better. I tried to tell myself that I would come back some day and pay for it. The price tag said it was only $3.98. Maybe I could save that much from my allowance, but I knew I wouldn’t.

I just took it anyway. I jammed it into my book bag. I gave into my desire. I could feel the drumbeat in my head saying, tom, tom; you’re a bad boy. Tom, tom, you’re a bad boy.

I ran almost all of the way home. The fear and the guilt was really getting to me. Later that evening I lay in my bed wondering what to do. That drumbeat just kept going on and on in my head. I think I can still feel it now; that tom, tom beat of desire and guilt all mixed together.

When I woke up in the morning, I ran out into the back yard and buried my beautiful water pistol in a little hole I dug, and then covered it up with dirt so no one would ever discover that I was a sinner. I never got to enjoy that water pistol, and I never got over feeling guilty about taking it. There are some drumbeats of conscience that don’t go away.

I am all grown up now some people would say. And when the dreaded tom, tom beat of desire grabs hold of me for one reason or another, I remember my toy water pistol. I remember how guilty I felt. I have learned to control my emotions most of the time, but not to quell them. There is so much more I want to learn and to do, but it has to be the right way.

If only I knew what was all right to do. If only those dreaded drumbeats would go away. For now I think I have things under control, but nobody knows when the drumbeats of desire will hit again. Nobody knows how he or she will react. Is any one ever really in control, or is God the only one that is truly in control.

As we enter this season of new beginnings, can you honestly say that you can control your emotions, passions and desires? You may be marching to a different drumbeat than I, but there are still things you want and desire, aren’t there? How do you know when it is all right to reach out and grab them?

I think the best way to decide what is right from what is wrong is to ask yourself, “What would God want me to do?”

If you have enough faith I am sure you will come up with the right answer. Enjoy the holidays. The best is yet to come. It’s going to give all of us sinners the opportunity for a new beginning.

The Troubled Little Geese Of Christmas

One little Goose turned to another as they sat near the edge of a golf course that was covered in a half an inch of fresh snow and said, “My friend we should have gone South before it became so cold. I am afraid our wings will freeze up if we try and make the trip now.”

The other little Goose responded, “And do you expect a less icy reception in the South. Everybody hates us. We are welcome nowhere.”

“Why is that asked Goose number 1”?

“I think it is because there are too many of us, and we create a mess wherever we go. Besides people think of us as just Geese who don’t count for much,” answered Goose number 2.

"But I thought that in the spirit of Christmas people would be more willing to look kindly on the least amongst us”?

“I know, I know, but life is not always what it is supposed to be. We will have to learn to accept our circumstance with grace and good will to all at this holiday season.”

“I find it hard to accept our lot in life as it is. I don’t believe that this is the way God would want things to be. He is full of kindness and mercy. Perhaps if we pray to Him he will hear our prayers and help others to understand our plight.”

“I hope so my friend. My tail feathers are starting to freeze. I am afraid of what will happen to us in the future. We have no food. There is no one who wants to help us. We disturb there celebrating, impose on their happy times and impinge on their holiday spirit.”

“I believe it won’t always be like this my friend. One day people will be full of the goodness that God designed them to have. Then even little Geese like us will have a place in this society. Then even we will be able to find some happiness for our families and some sense of security. Then even us poor little Geese will not be discriminated against especially at this time of giving and kindness that represents the true spirit of Christmas.”

“Are there other groups such as us that are discriminated against even at Christmas time”?

“Yes there are, but most of them are human.”

“Do you think people will ever understand that we have feelings too”?

“I think they will soon. I think that as soon as the spirit of Christmas spreads its wings of joy over all of God’s people that they will begin to recognize that even little Geese or any other minority group have their place in God’s Kingdom, for in caring about them we can become more than we were. We can become what God intended us to be.

Have a very happy Christmas Holiday, and please don’t forget all the little Geese amongst us; they come in so many different types and shapes that sometimes it is hard to remember that they have feelings.

HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR FAITH?

Do you have enough faith in God to help you cope with the troubles of our time?

Are you a good and worthwhile person who is entitled to find God’s grace?

When was the last time you prayed to God for the peace of mind to make you feel secure?

Today we are bombarded by natural disasters and acts of terrorism. How can we hope to cope with the insecurity of our time if we don’t have faith in God and in His goodness and mercy?

I’m not talking about the faith that we salve ourselves with by going to a Church or Mosque or Temple. I am talking about the true feelings of your heart and mind.

Are you really a person of faith?

Do you practice what is preached to you?

Are you kind and caring to other people?

Do you truly love your fellow man?

Are you willing to accept your neighbors right to believe in God in his or her own way?

It is only by answering these questions positively that we can hope to become people of faith.

It is only by trusting in God and trying to be kind and caring that we can hope to find and nourish our faith.

When we begin to have faith in God we will start to find the peace of mind we strive for. We will begin to feel the state of bliss that a true Person of Faith has. We will begin to learn how to cope with the troubles of the time we live in. We will begin to feel secure.

Johnny Oops – In The Beginning

Are you wondering how you got here, don’t worry, so am I. I guess the fine hand of my author has his presence branded in my mind, but I don’t care because it is my imagination that is going to take us where we are going.

I am not about to tell you too much about my character in my novel, because I don’t want you to know too much about it until it is published. All I remember is that I started off as a gangly twelve year old boy who kept banging into things, thus the nickname Oops, and spent way to much time in the bathroom doing what twelve year old boys do until I grew up and became a womanizer. I will leave the rest to your imagination. You do have one, don’t you? You do know what I’m talking about, don’t you?

Do any of us really know what we are doing or where we are going? I don’t have a clue until I start to write. Then the path well trodden in my imagination takes hold of me and I am propelled into a new reality that constantly changes with different hues of emotion and feeling. Isn’t it wonderful? It colors my judgment. It makes me feel fulfilled. Maybe that will happen to you. All you have to do is use your imagination. I know. I am the messenger, and I have the ‘word’. You can rely on what I have to say. Count on it.

Let’s get one thing straight. I am only revealing my innermost thoughts to you because I want to get published. That’s right, I want someone to hear my words of wisdom and publish my novel, Johnny Oops. Can anyone hear me?

The average net worth of head of households in the 55-64 year old group has a medium income of more than $112,000, which is more than 15 times the figure reported for the under 35 age crowd.

When are we going to start getting the recognition, as a group, that we are entitled to as the people with the greatest purchasing power?

Happy Father's Day - You Deserve It

That’s right, you are entitled to celebrate and be celebrated on father’s day. You tried to do your best to provide your children with a decent life and now you are entitled to celebrate the fact that you are a father.

You did participate in bringing your children into the world, didn’t you?

You did try and give them the best education you could afford, didn’t you?

You did love and help care for them, didn’t you?

Now it’s your turn to be recognized for your efforts.

I think too often that us fathers are taken for granted. It is assumed that we will care for our children. It is assumed that we will pay attention to their needs and wants. But this isn’t true in all societies, and it certainly isn’t true in all species.

It makes sense to me that we do what we do as fathers because we want to. I think its part of an ingrained gene that God gave us to help make up part of the human family. I think it’s a special characteristic that we have been blessed with.

So lets celebrate the way we are on father’s day. And while we are doing so lets not forget our wonderful children who are the product of our efforts. And let’s not forget God who has given us the capacity to care about our family and our children.

Maybe if we are very lucky, our children won’t forget us either. Maybe they will help us celebrate being who we are. Maybe they will remember what we do for them, and how much we care.

It’s true I guess that some of us may be forgotten or even not truly appreciated for who we are and what we have done. But it really doesn’t matter because the proof of our efforts is in our children. It is undeniable. They are wonderful. We helped make them this way. God the father of us all has played a major part in this celebration of human life and renewal. Let’s not forget our Faith in Him who has made our day of celebration possible.

Stripped Naked In God's eyes

I found myself crouching in the corner of my bed quivering with fear with the blankets pulled up over my head. I had just had a dream or was it a nightmare? I dreamed that I was standing in the middle of Times Square in New York City stark naked and everyone was laughing at me. They had discovered all my weaknesses. They had determined that I was not really a Person of Faith.

Sometimes dreams reveal our fears and insecurities. Sometimes they serve to remind us of our weaknesses. Sometimes they show us how much more faith we really need before we can stand before God as people of faith.

In order to peel away years of feeling insecure, we have to strip away our inhibitions and use our imaginations to find our true inner feelings of faith. The time to do this is now.

Stop worrying about revealing your weaknesses to your friends and family. Stop worrying about how you appear to strangers. Stop concerning yourself with how the public will view you.

The only one that you truly have to concern yourself with is God. God knows all your fears. He knows all your weaknesses. He feels your pain. Before God we all stand naked. He knows what is in our hearts and souls.

Are you ready to stand naked before God?

Are you ready to reveal to Him your innermost feelings?

You can tell God anything. You can expose your true feelings of faith to Him.

You can show God that you do believe in Him and that you do have faith.

You can let God know that you have faith in Him even though you can only imagine his grace and his glory.

Hurry, God may be waiting to hear from you.

I am getting a little confused looking at all the different affiliate type programs offering me a free Website to promote one product or the other. Each offer indicates that their way is the best to the exclusion of all others. What I really want is to have the best of all worlds.

Surprise, a very unofficial, unscientific poll I just took among a group of my poker playing buddies indicates that the New Middle Aged Group (Those in their fifties and sixties) are split in their political leanings pretty much along the same lines as the national electorate of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans.

As far as having faith in God and a high degree of Spiritualism is concerned, there is no divide. People of all political persuasions appear to have faith except of course for the Atheists.

This statistically corrupt information only begs the fact that there are a lot of politics going on in the name of faith. And this applies especially to people in their fifties and sixties who in their own minds no longer have any margin for error left even if it is plus or minus three percent as the polling pundits will tell you.

Make no mistake about it, there is a tug of war going on for the political allegiance of people of all faiths, but the New Middle Aged Group are standing their ground. They are refusing to be swayed by the puffed up pitches and rhetoric of all the major political parties. They have seen and heard this all before.

The New Middle Aged Group prefers to rely on their instincts and their faith to guide them in making political decisions. That’s how they managed to get to this stage in their life to begin with without falling prey to disaster.

As far as the faith part goes, they all started with some faith in God and this has only grown over the years as the specter of their own mortality becomes increasingly present in their minds.

You might wonder why this is the topic for conversation when so much of what we know is a given. The truth is that every one wants their vote. That’s right, the older and supposedly wiser heads, those baby boomers and their ilk, are respected, adored, and courted for their vote

It’s enough to make one wonder what all the fuss about getting older is if every one wants what this hardy group of people in their fifties and sixties have: the wisdom to make sound decisions, the stamina to live longer healthier lives, the desire and ability to make the right choices and of course their precious votes.

I say let’s spend our time trying to figure out how to join this august group instead of fighting getting older. That’s what I vote for. How about you?

Yesterday in response to another article I had written about working at home for people in their fifties and sixties, I got a number of comments that others felt the same way about starting new careers and were using the Internet to do so. They seemed to be very happy to see that someone else held opinions similar to theirs and was attempting to do the same thing.

Then it struck me that there must be a lot of people out their who are struggling with retirement and the wish to stay active, continue earning a living, and do something worthwhile and creative with their lives.

It can seem pretty lonely when suddenly the job you have been doing for many years is no longer there, when you no longer have an office to go to, and when your normal daily work routine suddenly stops.

It would be nice to know that many other people are going through the same type of lifestyle altering events. It would be nice to know what other people are doing to deal with this major change in their lives, how they are creating new careers, and what they are doing to stay active and do something constructive.

To today’s active new middle-aged group retirement no longer means no longer working. It means changing the nature of the work that you do. It means finding a new direction. It means taking charge of your life.

Sometimes starting a new career can be the opportunity to follow your own special interests that you may not have had the ability to concentrate on before. Sometimes it means being able to work at your own pace from your own home. Sometimes it gives you the luxury to be free to do whatever you feel called upon to do.

No one can force you into retirement. No one make you do or not do something. You have reached a stage in your life where you can live life on your own terms.

Maybe what we need to do is to start a community of like-minded people who consider themselves part of the new middle-aged group and are ready to start a new career. Maybe we can help each other find the answers we are searching for together as we make a fresh start.

Happy Mothers Day: Who Is The Biggest and Best Mother of Them All?

Is it the mother of invention? Is it the mother of Jesus Christ? Is it your own mother? The answer I think is all of the above.

Isn’t it time we started honoring our mothers all year long instead of just on one special day of the year? Mothers Day is coming. Have you been honoring and respecting and loving your mother every day of the year to get ready for this big event?

It seems to me we ought to show some appreciation for how we got here granted that God’s fine hand is imprinted on our very conception. Without our mother’s cooperation and nurturing love we wouldn’t be here.

What about all the life lessons our mothers have taught us? Shouldn’t she get daily credit for teaching us about life and love and having faith and God?

I think it is time to stop taking mothers for granted. Those of us that are old enough should know better. Let’s not forget how we got here and whom we have to be thankful to for the blessings of life.

So let’s remember our mothers, our faith, and our God, and give thanks for being alive. Let’s give thanks for all the bandaged fingers and tears wiped away from insult or hurt when we were growing up. Let’s not forget the caring and kindness. Let’s not forget our mother’s faith in God and in us, and the moral compass she provided us with.

Let’s not forget those of us whose mothers have passed. We have no one to celebrate Mother’s day with except our wives and our own families. But we do have our cherished memories. We can remember special times. We can remember a mother’s love, and so can our children.

So if your mother is still with you whether it is in memory of fun times past, or in the appreciation of this special day to celebrate our mothers, let’s make the most of this opportunity to consecrate the greatness of our mothers and the mothers of our children.

Let’s not forget our mothers and our children’s mothers: not on their special day, and not on every other day of our lives. Let’s celebrate.

Sex and Religion: having faith in both

There are some things people learn from their parents and some things they learn in church, but learning about sex is usually accomplished via the self-study method. We just have to have faith that what we learn about sex is appropriate and in keeping with the teachings of God.

The good part is that most of us have a natural proclivity for procreation, and thus are following in the footsteps of God. After all He did make all of us in His image, didn’t he?

I don’t mean to sound blasphemous, but having sexual feelings seems to be a natural instinct, and you know whom we got those from. Thank God there is no reason to believe we are doing something wrong when we have sex. It is nice to know that on the contrary we are doing God’s work and populating the planet.

Don’t get too happy just yet. We still have to account for the use of prophylactics and the proliferation of same sex coupling. I don’t think either of these things were part of God’s original plan.

In spite of all our good intentions, we humans manage to mess things up once in a while or at least deviate from God’s plan. Maybe that’s why some of us are called deviates. But I prefer to concentrate on what comes naturally both in my religious beliefs and in my sexual habits. It makes it so much easier for me to have faith in God and myself that way.

Speaking of having faith, when was the last time you viewed having sex as a religious experience? Makes you stop and think doesn’t it? If we concentrate on the religious aspect of having sex more of us might enjoy it more or at least feel less guilty about doing it. We might even come to accept it as a normal part of life.

Don’t you want to be normal? If you do you are going to have to learn to channel your sexual impulses to adhere to the will of God as each of you interpret it. That shouldn’t be so difficult, should it?

I don’t know why an activity that we all seem to enjoy so much and which evidently is a religious experience should cause so many of us pain and stress. Maybe if we had more faith in God all we would be left with is the pleasure of the experience of doing God’s will.

How To Stuff A Watermelon Into A Kumquat

Okay, I admit it isn’t going to be easy, but if we have enough faith in God it can be done. Let’s start by stripping away our inhibitions that keep us from using our imagination. That’s better; you are starting to get the hang of this I think. You are beginning to accept the principal that in God’s world all things are possible.

I am not looking to make your life more difficult, but there are a lot of things we cannot visualize because we don’t understand. We sometimes find it hard to have faith in God because we cannot see or understand Him, but we know in our hearts that He is there never the less.

It is difficult to envision a big watermelon being stuffed into a tiny kumquat, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. All things are possible if we have enough faith.

What we need to do is to strip away our inhibitions and use our imagination. As with all things that require faith, this will mean that we will have to accept that which we cannot see. Do not fear peeling away your inhibitions and using your imagination, we are all striped naked of our preconceived notions and fears in God’s eyes.

Maybe what we have to do is to start with the seed of an idea. Maybe we have to start with accepting God’s will as a given. Maybe we have to start thinking of the watermelon as nature’s seed conceived by God.

If we start to think about the watermelon as a seed, we can begin to imagine that we could stuff it into a kumquat. Then it would only be a matter of faith and miracles to ascertain how big the watermelon could grow before the poor little kumquat burst.

I think if we start to have the proper perspective about our faith in God, and lean to accept His presence on faith, then all kinds of wonderful visions and miracles will become possible.

Perhaps it is not such a giant leap of faith from a watermelon in a kumquat to peace on earth and goodwill to all of God’s children. We are all God’s seed and we need to have faith in our Maker. We need to open our hearts and lean to believe. We need to nourish the seeds in the garden of His grace. We need to acknowledge the miracle of nature that God has given us.

Commissions usually range between four and six percent. Earnings may vary from approximately $25,000 to $100,000 plus a year. You could be making money and doing something for a good cause at the same time.

If your inclination is to earn a living spreading God’s word and doing good works in His name there are many opportunities to do so. You have to start by analyzing the nature of your calling to do God’s work, and see if you can measure up to what the Lord will require of you. That’s right, it is not enough to use God’s name, you have to believe in what you are doing if you expect to be successful. You will have to have the ability to communicate your feelings for God to the people you come in contact with and are soliciting.

In other words, before a person can make others believe in God, and do His good works, and make good money doing so, one has to have faith in the power and mercy of our common Lord themselves. You will have to believe that what you are doing is moral and ethical and in the best interests of God and yourself and the people you serve; otherwise it would be blasphemous.

How can you expect others to buy God’s stuff from you if you don’t have faith in God and his words of kindness and caring yourself?

Easter – Its origins and relationship to Pagans and Passover

I’m confused about Easter, how about you? There seems to be much scholarly discourse that links the Christian tradition of Easter to the Jewish tradition of Passover and to certain Pagan rituals and beliefs that came before them. There is even some dispute over the actual date of Christ’s death and resurrection, but the faith that each of us hold in our hearts cannot be in dispute. This I believe.

The name Easter may have first been associated with an ancient Goddess, The Venerable Bede, (672-735). She was the mother Goddess of the Saxon people in Northern Europe who was known as Eastra.

Many Pagan religions in the Mediterranean area had a major seasonal day of religious celebration following the Spring Equinox. Cybele, the Phrygian fertility goddess had a fictional consort named Attis who was believed to have been born in a virgin birth and to have died and been resurrected each year during the March 22 to March 25th period around 200 B.C. Wherever Christian worship of Jesus and Pagan worship of Attis were active in the same area at around the same time, Christians and Pagans used to quarrel about which of their gods was the true one.

Some religious historians believe that the death and resurrection legends were first associated with Attis many centuries before the birth of Christ. One theory is that they were simply grafted onto stories of Jesus’ in order to make Christian theology more acceptable to Pagans.

My own opinion is that we shouldn’t worry too much about what the experts say. I think its what you feel in your heart and soul that counts at this holy time of year. I think it’s your family traditions, your personal beliefs, and the religious rituals you have grown up with that really matter.

Easter has Judeo-Christian origins. The life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the gospels includes the Christian version of this theme. Good Friday is observed in remembrance of Jesus’ execution by an occupying Roman army, and his burial in a cave. Easter Sunday is the date when a group of his female followers first noticed that the tomb was empty, and concluded that he had been resurrected.
The timing of the Christian celebration of Easter is linked to the Jewish celebration of Passover. The name Passover was derived from the angel of death passing over homes of Jews, which were marked, with the blood of a lamb thus sparing the first born of such homes. Liberal Theologians link Passover to ancient pre-Israelite Pagan rituals practiced by wandering Semitic shepherds in celebration of an agricultural harvest using unleavened bread.

Passover was the most important feast of the Jewish calendar, celebrated around the 22nd of March. The Synoptic gospels of Mark, Mathew, and Luke stated that Jesus’ last supper was a Seder or Passover celebration.

Most Christians believe that Jesus Christ was executed and buried just before the beginning of Passover on Friday evening. A minority believes that the execution occurred on a Wednesday or Thursday. Some liberal Christians have suggested that the early Christian Church arbitrarily selected Passover as the time thus allowing them to link the most important religious days in Judaism and Christianity.

Whatever your personal beliefs are, whatever the actual dates are, don’t let the skeptics amongst us deter you from celebrating your religious beliefs and traditions. Don’t let those of little faith keep you from believing.

Easter is a Christian Festival, which celebrates Christ’s Resurrection. Today eggs are decorated and exchanged with friends and family to commemorate the unification of all God’s children. In ancient times eggs were exchanged to symbolize the continuance of life after death. Early Christianity is thought to have adopted the idea and incorporated it into their Easter celebration. Let the celebration continue.

The Longevity Express is here. People are starting to live longer faster than ever before. Isn’t it wonderful? The average age is now around eighty and climbing quicker than the actuarial tables have estimated. People in their fifties and sixties now consider themselves part of the new middle aged. More and more of them are starting to work from home.

Where will it all end? No one knows, but certain scientists are estimating average life spans of well over one hundred in the not to distant future. At this rate people in their seventies may soon consider themselves middle aged.

What are we doing to prepare for this Longevity Express? We better do some planning before we end up with a train wreck.

Planning For The future:

1. What will the health and life insurance people do when faced with masses of people in their nineties plus looking for coverage?
2. What will happen to Social Security and Medicare?
3. Will the demand for new life prolonging drugs continue unabated?
4. Will people have to modify their wills and trusts to account for grandchildren and great grandchildren?
5. Will body part cloning become a reality?
6. How will corporations deal with an aging work force?
7. What are the social ramifications of Longevity re marriage, sex, and divorce?
8. Will children have to provide more care to parents?
9. Will there be enough assisted living facilities?
10. Will people living to one hundred plus have the mental and physical capacity to lead worthwhile, primarily pain free, productive lives?

Enough attention is not being paid to the side effects of the Longevity Express. It will have major effects on our economy and in fact on our philosophy of life.

Perhaps the most important effect of people living longer is a need to provide them with ways to continue to be productive members of our economy. New Middle Age Group And Their New Careers

There are over 78 million Baby Boomers, and a lot of them are getting ready to start new careers as they enter a new stage in their lives and prepare to reenter the work force.

Many people in their forties, fifties and sixties who consider themselves part of the new middle aged group are searching for new careers where they can take advantage of their vast experience and prior successes.

Some have decided to start a second career because they need more money to fund the type of lifestyle they want to continue to enjoy.

Some have decided to start a new career because they feel good and just don’t want to retire.

Some like the sense of accomplishment that comes from working and being creative.

Whatever the reason, there is a large group of people who want to find something to do that can bring them income and or personal satisfaction, and the ability to work at home for as many hours as they wish.

One has to be careful because there are many scam artists out there looking to take advantage of this situation and hawking a variety of get rich quick schemes.

One rule of thumb to follow is if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If it promises instant riches with little or no work it is probably a phony.

There are, however, legitimate opportunities out there in the market place, that depending on your talents, interests, and background, might be worth pursing if you are interested in starting over.

The question is what can you expect when starting a new venture – probably the same type of thing you have been used to in the past in a new Internet based format.

You still have to answer the questions who wants to buy what I will be offering, and are there enough of them to make my venture profitable?

Did God Have A Literary Agent When He Published The Bible?

I know that the bible was published after God became known to us, but the thoughts are supposed to be His, aren’t they? How did the good book get published?

My own thinking on the matter is that God didn’t really need an agent to get His good book published. All He had to do was to rely on word of mouth and His own words of caring and kindness.

It is difficult, however to believe in that which is beyond our powers of reason to see or understand. But that is why God is God I think. And that is why believing in Him requires an element of faith.

If we humans were indeed fashioned in his image, then we should find the faith to believe in ourselves as well. Sometimes that proves difficult.

I am an unknown writer, but I can’t rely on word of mouth to make my words known. Not that I am comparing myself to God, but I too find myself little understood and almost invisible.

I need an agent. Someone that will recognize as one agent said, “that I am a gifted writer who has an unbelievable imagination. He also said I needed a good editor and agent if I ever expected to be published. Unfortunately he was non-fiction and I am almost all fiction. Sometimes I think I am surreal like some of the characters in my six unpublished and mostly unread novels.

So if there is an Angel up there that would like to guide me to a good agent I will be eternally grateful.

I would ask the agent of my dreams to read Johnny Oops who starts out as a teenage genius and turns into a Sex Maniac, Charlatan, Prophet, or Guru when he grows up depending on your point of view.

Perhaps he or she could take a look at Voyeur about a suitcase bomb that is detonated in the middle New York City for a dose of reality.

Maybe The Magic Pill, which features a young couple who invent a faith-based magic pill that cures cancer, would provide comic relief to many as a distraction from the troubles of our time.

Futures/Past wouldn’t do that, it has a really catastrophic black ending, but Husband Hunting might lighten up every ones mood. I think it is a new genre that might be called husband light.

Last and possibly not least might be the Wasn’t Man, which is a mystery about insider trading, or was it?

Just a final thought, these novels are definitely not autobiographical or else I have a seriously split personality.

Perhaps that is why I am searching for God and a good agent at the same time.

So much failure, so many false starts, It was rocking my soul, and rendering me a useless blob, then God whispered in my ear – yes you can.

Have you ever felt like that? Have you ever felt that nothing could or would go right for you? That’s when your faith in God can see you through the rough times.

Whether it is family illness or financial woes, if you believe in the Almighty, then God will always whisper in your ear, and give you the encouragement that you need.

When you feel that all is lost and the situation is hopeless, people of faith know that God is always available to whisper in your ear that you can overcome your problems. You can do it. Yes you can.

Don’t let a lack of will or faith; keep you from realizing your dreams. Don’t let past bad experiences keep the voice of God from your mind and heart. Listen for his words of encouragement and wisdom. Yes you can.

Some people may feel that God isn’t talking to them, or that if he is they can’t hear what he is whispering to them. But we can all hear what God has to say to us if we keep an open mind and have faith in the Almighty.

How many times have you said to yourself – I can’t do this? How many times have you faltered in your endeavor to get closer to God and have more faith? How many times have you questioned your own faith?

It is time to stop questioning the Lord. It is time to believe and have faith. It is time to continue your search for God so that He can whisper in your ear that – It is going to be all right, and that yes you can make a success of your life.

Spiritualism And The New Middle Aged Group

The vast majority of people in their fifties and sixties who consider themselves part of the new middle aged group are highly spiritual.

They have different religious beliefs, but almost all of them believe in a higher power.

A belief in a Supreme Being or God apparently is core to their success in staying young and feeling healthy.

One notable difference in this age group as compared to people who are biologically much younger is that a strong belief in the Almighty is a core value that has sustained them over the years.

The New Middle Aged Group have learned to use their spiritualism as a source of strength and moral guidance. It has provided them with a compass that help-s them find their way through the various trials in life that people normally encounter.

Without faith in God people in their fifties and sixties would be hard pressed to cope with the troubles of our times such as acts of terrorism or natural disasters.

This coping mechanism is more of an instinctive trait than a learned one. People in the New Middle Aged Group tend to rely more on instinct then their younger counterparts who rely more on reason or logic.

It is good instincts and a reliance on faith in one Supreme Human Being that has gotten this age group to the position they are in now.

The New Middle Aged Group is inquisitive and constantly looking for the inspiration to increase their spiritual knowledge.

Contrary to public opinion this age group is very open to learning new things, changing their views, and taking quick action that enables them to stay ahead of the longevity curve.

This is how they stay young, by trying new things, and challenging themselves to do ever more with their lives.

The New Middle aged Group are the wealthiest in our nation with tremendous purchasing power and the ability to be a dynamic force for good.

Their spiritual leanings tend to make them amongst the most charitable and caring of age groups nationwide. It is a philosophy of ‘giving back’ that promotes their feelings of kindness and caring.

Those of us who are approaching our fifties and sixties might do well to take inspiration from this age group, and learn to rely more on our faith in God to help us live long and happy.

I find it hard to believe that some of us as we approach our fifties and sixties are having difficulty engaging our brains. I always thought it was a matter of use it or lose it. Is it possible that some of us have been spending too much time with our brains in a state of disengagement?

Perhaps the problem is that some of us have nothing worthwhile to think about any more. Maybe the difficulty is that we can find almost all the answers to our questions on Google, and there is no longer any need to think independently. Maybe it is because we think that supplements will exercise our brains for us without any effort on our part.

I’ve got a great idea, why don’t we invent a game that requires us to think independently again. Let’s start by agreeing to calculate our restaurant tips in our heads without benefit of pocket calculators by doubling the bill and placing a decimal point after the first digit as the tip. An example would be a $40 dining bill doubled would equal $80 or an $8.00 tip. Come on let’s be generous for a change. You can round off if you want.

Now that you have gotten the idea, how about you thinking up all the little daily actions you now do by computer or calculator that you could do in your head. That’s it; you are starting to think again. Isn’t it amazing, you are using your brain? Before you know it you will be remembering your home telephone number without benefit of speed dial. Be sure you have properly trained your brain before you try this last brain game. I wouldn’t want you calling you girlfriend or boyfriend by mistake when you meant to call your wife or your husband. If you are single it really doesn’t matter what you remember. The telephone number of the person you met in the bar last night is probably the hot line number for the IRS. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to play brain games.

I think that some of us in our fifties or sixties have a real advantage when trying to exercise our brains because this is the type of thing we had to do on a regular basis when we were younger, before speed dialing, Google and other mind numbing supports were available.

You remember the days when pulling out a pocket calculator to figure the tip on a dinner bill was considered a no, no, don’t you? We have real life experience training in handling situations like this with nothing but our own brains to rely on.
Maybe that’s why we are staying younger longer. Maybe that’s why we are part of the new middle-aged group. Maybe having a little more faith in our own abilities and in God, will provide us with the ultimate brain game.

Sometimes statistics don’t tell the whole story. Sometimes over reliance on historical data can lead us in the wrong direction. When marketing to people in the new middle aged group (NMA), those in their fifties and sixties, sometimes we have to stop and listen to our hearts.

NMA people rely heavily on their instincts, emotions and their faith. That’s what we marketers of products and services have to do when we are dealing with them. That’s what we should do when we are trying to sell them something. We have to try and anticipate what they want and how they feel and respond in an emotional appeal that they will relate to.

Many of the NMA people rely on their faith to help them find their way. They have a keen sense of spirituality. It is wiser to appeal to them on an emotional basis than it is to rely solely on a logical argument or on boring reasoned judgment. Try and tell a story that will interest them so that they can start to relate to you and your marketing message.

Let the NMA know that you are a real person who can feel their pain and share their joy. If you do they will start to relate to you and the product you are trying to sell them. Be careful not to puff or embellish the facts. The NMA have good instincts. That’s how they got to this stage to begin with. They can almost sense a deception or a deceptive sales practice or pitch. Don’t try it. Tell the truth.

If there are minor problems with the product you are selling let them know what they are at the same time you are listing the benefits. NMA people are smart enough to make their own decisions. They will appreciate your candor.

Don’t try and sell the NMA what you think they should buy. Offer them what they want. Do the marketing research necessary to find out what they really want. Don’t prejudge what you think their interests are. And whatever you do, don’t stereotype them by their age group.

With the NMA it is often how they feel about themselves that dictates what they are interested in purchasing. Does anyone have a handle on what percentage of people over fifty own, or want to own sports cars? Does anyone have an idea of how spiritualism drives the buying decisions of the NMA? Where are the studies that indicate what effect sex drive has on NMA buying decisions?

The key here I think is to realize that the NMA need to have their interests and desires taken into consideration. Being fifty plus isn’t all a matter of what painkillers you take. It involves passion and desire and the wish to have fun. It involves the desire to lead interesting active lives. It involves a holistic alternative approach to medicine as well as utilizing the latest medical advances and chemical drug treatments. It involves anticipating their spiritual needs.

Have any of you tried solving a problem you have with a
Retail Store, Bank, Gas Company, Cable Company, Internet Service Provider, Discount Store Chain, Credit Card Company, and or a Government Organization lately?

If you have you will probably have discovered that it is almost impossible to get a live person on the phone as opposed to the click 1, click 3, click 2, click 4 merry go-round these organizations send you on by phone to make sure you never speak to a real person.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to speak to virtual Sally. I want a real person to help me solve my problem. I don’t want to speak to someone in the Philippines, or be transferred to someone in India who is trying to read from a script in an American Accent when what I want is to speak to someone in the US who could possibly relate to my problem.

I am also getting tired of receiving bills with two weeks or less left in a twenty-five day billing cycle because the Company in question was too cheap to send the bill out by first class mail. Who decided a month was twenty-five days anyway? Why shouldn’t I have a full thirty days to pay my bill? After all the billing company wants me to pay by first class mail and allow eight to ten days for their inefficient PO Box handling systems to sort the mail.

It’s time to revolt against the death of customer service. The only one you can get on the phone these days is the telephone company. No wonder, they are making a bloody fortune with all the voice answering customer service robot voices Company’s are putting on the phone these days to stop us from getting our problems solved by a real person.

It has gotten so bad that in some major NYC department stores if you have a problem you have to take the elevator to an office floor and talk on the phone to a customer service voice located in a different state or country because they are afraid to let you speak to a live person in the store you are in who might answer your question or take a return or give you a credit, God forbid.

Sorry, I am getting worked up as you can see. Back to the subject – let’s revolt. That’s right, let’s let these organizations know we aren’t going to be pushed around anymore. For all of you who are fifty plus and remember the good old days when Company’s tried to provide good customer service, I am sure you will understand. Let’s do the following:

1. If you have a problem and get put on with a computer voice response system, hang up, call the Office of the President and tell them you have to speak to a live person or you are canceling your account.
2. If you get a bill with less than two weeks left to pay send a registered letter to the Office of the President telling him or her that you require thirty days from receipt of a bill to pay, and if this is not acceptable you are canceling your account. Tell them that if you receive a late payment fee you will refer the matter to the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission and or the Public service Commission, if it is a cable, utility or telephone bill.
3. If you get put on the phone with India or the Philippines, tell whomever you speak to that you can’t understand them. Then hang-up and call the Office of the President and tell the operator you want someone in the states to handle your problem or you are going take your business to their competitor, God help you.

If enough of these calls get placed to the Office of the President, even if you have to leave a message, the chances are the executive voice mail defense experts in charge will start to get the message that they are dealing with intelligent people who are fifty plus and are members of the New Middle Aged, and that we are not going to take this anymore.

They might even have their live customer service representatives ask if there is anything else they can do for us, or say, I hope this has solved your problem, or ask, do you have any other questions? They might even come up with the bright idea that this might afford them the opportunity to up sell another product to us while creating good will and customer loyalty.

It is possible that if we all have faith and we all work together we can get these genius marketers to understand that selling us something might just depend on what kind of service they give us, and that getting us as repeat customers will depend on the level of their customer service and our ability to speak to a real person.

As baby boomers start turning sixty, and health care innovations continue to increase longevity, many people in their fifties, sixties, and even seventies have come to think of themselves as part of a new middle age.

This new group of middle age people (NMAP) has strong opinions of what they want to buy to make their lives happier and healthier and how they want to live. Marketing to them successfully requires getting rid of many of the myths and assumptions associated with this age grouping.

To some extent it is a matter of NMAP crying out, “I don’t need it, I don’t want it, give me all you got.” Isn’t it time we started listening to what they really want?

The successful marketer has to make a conscious effort to discern what NMAP really want as opposed to what current perceptions of what they want are. The idea that middle-age people won’t change brands easily is a myth. Let’s help them live longer and continue to prosper, keeping in mind that quality of life issues and faith in God are very important to most of them.

How people consider what part of the age spectrum they are in is changing rapidly as Baby Boomers start turning sixty. With the advent of new health initiatives and drugs, many people in their sixties, and even seventies faced with the prospect of living longer healthier lives no longer think of themselves as seniors. They consider themselves part of the new middle age – a group that in their minds spans from fifty to seventy-five plus.

Post Baby Boomers have little interest in full retirement. They want to continue to work and prosper. Many of them want a change in career. Their desires vary from wanting to be consultants to owning their own business. Some want to work less and have more leisure time. Others are more interested in doing something that they really want to do than how much of their time the new project occupies.

One reason they commonly give for wanting to continue to work is because they have faith that they can. They feel good, have plenty of energy, and believe they have a valid experience based reason to be a productive part of our business society.

Employers are not fully prepared for this new middle class, but those that are attempting to make the adjustment in corporate thinking are learning how valuable these new middle age employees can be. Many Companies now prefer to hire older people on an outsourced part time consulting basis, finding their experience and level headed thinking makes them valuable additions to their workforce.

The new middle class is surprising corporate executives with their inquisitiveness and desire to learn new things. They are also renewing their interest in religion because they are not unmindful of their own mortality even if they are only middle age.

It’s nice to see this new middle class continuing and renewing their search for God. It’s nice to see them expressing the faith in God that has gotten them to this new juncture in their lives.

How Does God Rate In The Polls?

God better watch out. The devil may be gaining on Him.

According to a Fox News poll, ninety-two percent of the U.S. population believes in God. This is interesting because the PEW Research Institute has statistics that show that roughly forty-nine percent of the population attends houses of worship on a regular basis and forty-nine percent attend rarely if at all. Evidently the concept of God is more popular than organized religion or going to Church. The Gallop Poll and the Harris Poll and an ABC News poll also confirm this, but God’s popularity percentage verses the popularity of going to church varies with each poll. Sometimes I suppose it depends on how the spirit moves you, or what and who you think that God is that determines where, why and how you search for God. Unfortunately according to this poll seventy-one percent of the population also believes that the devil exists, but this doesn’t mean he is popular or that anyone is searching for him – thank God.

Of course you can skew the poll results in many different ways depending on how you ask a question and interpret the results. Perhaps this is why the same Fox News poll shows that eighty-five percent of the population believes in Heaven. It is hard to determine if this means that seven percent of those that believe in God don’t think they stand a chance in hell of getting into Heaven (92%-85%=7%) or if they just don’t buy into the whole concept of there being a Heaven, but do believe in God just in case. This same poll shows that eighty-two percent of people believe in miracles. Does this mean that they are part of the vast majority of people who believe it will take a miracle for them to get into Heaven? To make matters worse, while the percentage of people believing in God has stayed relatively constant over the last few years or in some polls decreased, the percentage believing in the existence of the devil has increased from sixty-three percent to seventy-one percent over roughly the same period of time. I can’t figure out what the hell this part of the poll means. I suppose it is open to interpretation, but this trend doesn’t sound good to me.

I don’t think it is necessary in discussing polls about the popularity of God to mention that these polls are probably correct plus or minus 3% because I doubt that God is running against anybody. Which makes me stop and wonder why if there is no chance of anyone else but God winning, why would anyone take a poll to begin with? Do you think that the devil has anything to do with this insane desire on the part of certain news organizations to take polls about who does and doesn’t believe in God? Why can’t we leave the poll taking to the atheists? They know who they are, and since they represent such a small and unconvinced percentage (8%) of the population, they should be responsible for paying for these polls in my opinion, or do they have the privilege of invoking minority rights. And whom would they invoke them to anyway? They certainly can’t turn to God, can they?

There is an obvious Gender Gap in relationship to these God like polls with women more likely than men to believe in most categories including Miracles by twelve percent and Heaven by eight percent. The one notable exception is that thirty-nine percent of men believe in UFOs verses thirty percent of women. I don’t know what UFOs have to do with God, but my wife tells me that if I don’t get off the subject she is going to send me into outer space. I wonder if she is mad or just wants to give me an opportunity to meet my maker? Please don’t rush me honey, I think I am on a fast track as it is.

Of perhaps more value to this discussion on polls about God is the fact that Fox News says republicans are more likely by eight percent to ‘say’ they believe in God and by fifteen percent in Heaven and by seventeen percent in the devil, while democrats believe in reincarnation by fourteen percent more than republicans. What do they mean when they use the term “say”? Does that mean the republicans don’t really mean it? Why the disparity when if comes to believing in the devil? Are the republicans out to get his vote too? How should we interpret the figures on reincarnation? Does this mean the democrats are hoping they can come back as republicans or just hoping for a comeback? This is all too confusing.

Before we leave the subject of polls about God to their eternal resting place, I think it worth noting that this same poll indicates that young people are much more likely to believe in hell by a ratio of eighty-six percent to sixty-eight percent for those over seventy years old. The same applies to the devil by a ratio of seventy-nine percent to sixty-nine percent. Does this mean that for older Americans their hell raising days are over, or does it mean that the younger generations are hell bent on raising the devil with our established religious traditions? I don’t know. I don’t even know if the younger or older Americans understand their respective positions on hell and the devil any better than those of us caught in the hellish position of being middle aged, which by the way the poll doesn’t cover as an individual age group at all. I leave these weighty interpretations in God’s hands, who, without the benefit of polling statistics, I am sure, will find the grace to interpolate and understand.

The one part of the poll I am really happy about I saved for last. This one makes the whole polling thing worthwhile for me. It shows that fully sixty-nine percent of the population believe that religion plays too small a part in our lives. That’s what I’ve been saying all along.

Before I leave this exercise in my God given right to have opinions on polls about God, I should make note of the fact that Fox News says that their poll was conducted over two days by telephone to over 900 people. What about the rest of the almost three hundred million people in the United States? Don’t we get a say? Has anyone tried polling God for his input lately? I wonder what He would have to say about His poll numbers? I bet He will have the final say.

Did you know that each and every one of us has their own unique way of expressing their faith in God? Some of us verbalize it and some of us express our faith through our actions. Most of us do both. But how often have you written down an expression of your faith and shared your prose with family and friends? I encourage you to do so. It could make them and you feel wonderful.

Writing down you feelings can have a therapeutic effect on your psyche. It can be a source for you revealing to yourself your innermost thoughts. You might be surprised at what strong feelings of faith you really have. Just strip away your inhibitions and let your imagination take over.

Writing down your feeling of faith can be a way to memorialize for your children what you are all about. It is something they can refer to and share with their children so they too will have an idea of your innermost feeling of faith in God. Don’t miss the opportunity to let everyone you care about know how you feel. It could help make them stronger. It could help make them happier. Seize the moment and write down your expression of faith.

It is up to you to pass your word along. It is up to you to let those you hold dear know how you feel. It is up to you to pass your feelings of faith along. It’s time to express your feelings of faith in God in writing.
